Six Week Lesson Series FAQ
- What type/level of swing dancing are you teaching?
- This time we are teaching basic Savoy Style Lindy Hop. This class will start right from the basics, and NO EXPERIENCE of any kind is necessary. This style of Lindy Hop is really very versatile and the techniques that you learn in the class will allow you to socially swing dance with anyone. This is also a great class to take if you have been socially swing dancing for a while but want to brush up on your basics.
- Do I have to sign up for all of the six lessons?
- Yes - since this is a progressive series (each week builds on the last week) you need to start the series from week one, and stick with it. This helps us keep the ratio of follows to leads balanced, and makes sure that everyone is on the same page in the class so that you can really practice with each partner you rotate to.
- Do I need a partner?
- No! We rotate during the class, and there are LOTS of people at the social dance after the lesson - everyone dances with everyone else and there is no need to bring a partner.
- How much does this cost?
- The social dance is $5, and the lesson is $5. You can come to just the social dance whenever you want - no reservations necessary. If you want to take the lessons, you need to sign up by the first week of the series, and register for all six weeks of the lesson and social dance ($60 per person).
- Where can I register?
- You can register online at our "classes"page. There you can register with Paypal, get the address to mail in a check, or e mail us to reserve a spot and pay that night.
- What if I just want to try the class before I commit to the six weeks?
- No problem! For anyone who is trying the lessons for the first time, you can pay $10 for the lesson and dance that night. If you decide to stay in the series, you can pay the balance ($50) the next week.
- What do people wear?
- The dress varies a lot - some people wear a skirt and blouse or pants and polo shirt, and some wear jeans and a T-shirt. As far as shoes, you want to wear something with a low or no heel that will stay on (no flip flops). And the bottoms of your shoes should be a little slippery (no treads).
- What age group will be there? Will I be out of place if I am in high school or if I have grandchildren in high school?
- Age does not matter! We have people attend the lessons and dance who are in their late teens through their 60's - although the average age in the lessons is probably around 30. We have a really positive environment, and everyone is supportive and friendly no matter what your age. (And if it helps you feel better, Paul has a notable amount of gray hair!)
